Tudor Herbs Seed Collection

Pollinator Favourite!
£18.95
Item number: 12 packets of herb seeds as described above.

In medieval times, monasteries were much valued for their herb gardens, which served both medicinal, culinary and other purpose, such as flavouring beverages, or crafting dyes. The monastic herb plot was carefully cultivated to provide essential herbs and plants for the monks' day-to-day needs and wider apothecary charity.

Monastery gardens were usually well stocked and carefully tended by the monks, following ancient practices and knowledge passed down through generations. The cultivation of herbs and plants was considered a sacred duty and their practical significance in medieval life salient.
Take advantage of this special selection of herb seeds to grow an added dimension to your garden. These seeds will propagate historically fascinating plants that are invaluable in the kitchen and yield a diverse range of pollinator supporting flowers.

In growing herbs a sunny spot is most appreciated, but a partly shaded site will usually be tolerated. If possible to contrive, radiated heat from stone, brick or concrete is much valued. Most herbs dislike wet ground and revel in gritty well drained compost. Pots or other containers which allow good aeration are ideal, and lend flexibility in utilising odd corners or awkward terrain.

For further information on individual herbs, please look up the plant in our 'All Seeds Gallery'(on Menu).
